The Friendly Games
A love of sport is just one thing that we all share.
Whether it is a game of football between friends at local schools, or our top athletes breaking world records in international stadiums, sport helps to bring us all together.
It is not a competition between countries but a chance to inspire each other to greater achievements. It is a chance to meet as well as compete.
That’s why we call our Commonwealth Games the ‘friendly games’.
Our Games are held every four years
They include athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, gymnastics, rugby, badminton, netball and lawn bowls.
There are para-sports events for elite athletes with a disability.
And of course, there’s the javelin.
Before the Games we carry a baton, containing a special message from the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth ll, to every country in our family.
It has to travel nearly 200,000km. We sure do work hard to stay together!
