Commonwealth Day
Commonwealth Day is celebrated on the second Monday in March every year.
The aim of commemorating Commonwealth Day is to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth to improve the lives of its 2 billion citizens.
Commonwealth Day 2011
In 2011, Commonwealth Day took place on Monday 14 March and the theme was ‘Women as Agents of Change’
This theme will be celebrated throughout the Commonwealth during the year, with special events taking place during the week of 14-20 March.
Commonwealth Day 2010
The theme of this year’s Commonwealth Day on 8 March 2010 was ‘Science, Technology and Society’.
Scientific and technological research continues to enhance our knowledge and understanding of the world. It has brought about not just efficiency, but profound political, economic and social transformation.
From health to education, agriculture to energy, enterprise to infrastructure, even to democracy and administration: science and technology have transformed – and bettered – almost every aspect of the lives of the citizens of the Commonwealth and the world.
